I’m Not Ready for This!

Today started a series of first-of-the-lasts. It was the first day of Sam’s last high school band camp. I am so not ready for him to be a senior. But, he is! He got up with no trouble this morning and even got to the school almost an hour early. (I would have liked to have slept a little longer!)

It seems like just yesterday he looked like this:

Or this:

Sam 001

Suddenly, he looks like this:

Well, sort of. Last week, he got new glasses and a haircut which make him look quite different…more grown up, I guess. (He hasn’t let me take a picture yet, but I’m going to try to sneak and take one sometime this week.)

Not only has he changed in looks since those early pictures, but he has also grown into quite a mature young man. All summer he has talked about wanting to be an encouragement to the freshmen in band this year. One freshman boy in particular seems to be socially awkward without many friends, and Sam said he is going to befriend him and try to help him out as much as he can. I love that quality in him!

As much as I hate to think of his growing up and moving away, I enjoy seeing what a fine young man he is becoming, and I am eager to see what his future holds.
