In honor of National Donut Day, Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts today. Unfortunately, Krispy Kreme moved out of Bristol a few years ago. Dunkin’ Donuts is also giving free donuts today, with the purchase of a beverage. Unfortunately, there isn’t a Dunkin’ Donuts in Bristol…yet. (There is supposedly one going in at the Pinnacle.) I decided it wasn’t worth the gas to drive to Johnson City for a free donut, so I just bought some, one for me and two for Sam. It was the first donut I’ve had in a while, and it was delicious!
For me, there is more reason to celebrate today than just donuts. I received a letter in the mail from my doctor informing me that the mammogram I had last week came back normal. That’s good news for any woman, but it’s especially good news for me. You see, my mom had breast cancer twice, 18 years apart; and the second time, that vicious disease stole her from me. Her sister Kitty also had breast cancer a few years ago. I’ve seen the horrible effects caused by the disease and its treatments (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery). Every time I have a mammogram, I’m terrified that it will be positive. So far, it has always come back normal; and every time, I celebrate.
Today is, indeed, a day for celebration! So, get out there and celebrate!
